“The Land is Mine and you are but sojourners and residents with Me.” (Deuteronomy 25:23)
The intersection of Sukkot, the Jewish harvest holiday and the American holiday of Columbus Day was a big WOW on Monday. The synchronization of the secular and Jewish holidays became the perfect comingling for a glorious morning.
Pumpkin picking followed by picnic lunch and shopping for homemade goodies in the farmer’s market and bakery at Johnson’s Corner Farm in Medford, New Jersey with our daughter, Beth and our delicious grandchildren, Sage and Darren was sheer bliss.
The hay ride through the apple orchards, corn stalks and pumpkin patches was reminiscent of my childhood in Reading, PA near the Amish community.
And it was just plain WOW to spend time with our darling grandchildren on a holiday on which Jewish tradition specifically commands happiness and America celebrates its discovery.
The day inculcated how important it is to create and maintain memories and rituals with your loved ones. So, what is your WOW of NOW? What Wow are you Woowing? Moadim l’simcha. Enjoy your holidays, your days and your rituals…
